What does it mean to be the Associate Eyecare Editor at CovalentCareers? 

CovalentCareers’ mission is to become the #1 online publication for eyecare professionals. We’re well on our way to meeting this goal, and are looking for a highly motivated and proactive Associate Eyecare Editor to help us crush it.

The Associate Eyecare Editor will be responsible for contributing ideas, editing pieces, and creating optometry and ophthalmology content for CovalentCareers and our industry clients. They will also be responsible for building relationships and sharing content with eyecare industry influencers and groups.

This will be a part-time position (at least to start!), but includes considerable room for growth in tandem with CovalentCareers’ growth as an organization. This position is perfect for an optometrist or other eyecare professional who is looking to grow their career outside of the clinical space, and wants to gain new skills and industry connections.

What are the core job duties?

Content Creation

  • Contribute 3-5 high-quality ideas for eyecare content each month, bearing in mind industry developments, news, and trending topics.
  • Provide input on the eyecare content calendar by attending and contributing to quarterly content strategy meetings.
  • Write 3-5, 800-1,500-word eyecare articles each month, following established style and SEO guidelines.
    • Note: Articles may include pieces written for CovalentCareers | Eyecare clients.
    • Note: May involve creating downloadable eyecare resources, such as cheat sheets, eBooks, and calculators.

Content Editing

  • Edit and proof all clinical content to ensure accuracy.
  • Edit and proof content produced in partnership with industry sponsors and clients, adhering to strict legal and copy requirements. This may require working directly with the client to ensure the piece passes through client copy clearance.
  • Edit and proof non-clinical content as needed.

Industry Interaction

  • Post content in eyecare industry channels, such as Facebook groups and closed forums.
  • Share content with eyecare industry influencers, including media outlets and organizations.
  • Make introductions to those within the industry as needed.
  • Proactively seek out industry influencers and form positive relationships.
  • Attend major eyecare conferences as needed with the CovalentCareers | Eyecare team and partake in company content and mentorship programs and efforts.

Writer Sourcing

  • Source new writers from industry contacts as needed.

Who will you get to work with? 

At the time of writing this, we’ve got 15 team members here at CovalentCareers. You’ll work most closely with our Associate Director of Client Services, Content Specialist, Sr. Marketing Manager, Managing Editor, and Graphic Designer. You’ll report directly to the Sr. Marketing Manager and will also get to work with tons of industry influencers and eyecare companies.

Required qualifications and skills

  • Doctor of Optometry Degree and clinical experience
  • Experience writing clinical and non-clinical content for optometrists, ophthalmologists, opticians and/or techs
